Gensler Case Study
Problem
Gensler is a global design firm with 40+ offices and projects at every scale—from brand and product design, to workplace planning, to supertall buildings.
After a period of rapid growth, Gensler needed a new approach to managing its data and institutional knowledge. Much information was siloed and difficult to find, especially when it came to data about our projects. 
Working closely with end-users to understand their pain points, I designed and developed numerous reporting tools, ranging from financial reporting dashboards, to project management tools, to interactive maps.
I also partnered with our data and engineering teams to optimize key aspects of our information architecture and taxonomy, resulting in major changes to our internal systems that improved usability and data integrity.

Follow-through
It wasn't enough to just deliver these projects. Users needed to be trained on new tools and processes, and those tools and processes were constantly refined based on user feedback. Every project I delivered at Gensler had a corresponding communications campaign around it. Two of those are included below, along with screen shots from a few of my projects.

GENSLER ORIENTATION DECK, 2018 (ABOVE)

I developed a simple slide deck introducing knowledge management, which I presented regularly as part of Gensler's orientation program.

POSTERS, 2014 (LEFT)

As part of a larger effort to change Gensler's culture around data, I created a set of "PSA" posters to raise awareness about the utility and purpose of the digital library, and emphasize everyone’s responsibility to contribute.

NEW & COMPLETE PROJECTS (ABOVE, LEFT)

This interactive report was used to guide timely updates to Gensler's internal project records as part of a new knowledge management process. Design Managers have two options for review: update new and recently completed projects each month, or monitor their active projects on an ongoing basis. I developed the process and reporting concept, and designed, coded, and built this tool, and conducted user testing to refine and improve functionality.

PROJECT STORIES (ABOVE, RIGHT)

This dashboard helped marketers track their progress updating project narratives in the digital library and create an automated pipeline of marketable projects. I developed the process and reporting concept, and designed, coded, and built this tool, and conducted user testing to improve usability.
